The D4W project has been so demanding in time and energy, it’s almost a year ago that I took the time to write on this blog. Quite a lot happened this year, the D4W concept is now a discipline that’s recognized world wide and it’s definitely time for me to step away from the organization and get back into the game.
Next step: CharleWars competition at Airspace, the brand new wind tunnel in Belgium. What could possibly be better than a competition with a Star Wars theme to reunite the Skywalkers?! Also let me introduce David Reader, he is part of the new school generation of flyers. Which means ultra talented, flying fast lines with cool tricks all over the place and he’s joining me Havard and Kristian for the comp.
If you don’t know Dave yet, you should check out this video made at Voss Vind:
Against the grain is a movie project filmed and edited entirely by myself during the Big way experience and the floquentials 2013 at skydivespain.com and organised by, Mike Carpenter, Jim Harris and Matt Hill.
I finally make my choice:Big thank to TONFLY for the support.
Talking about playing, Im currently having a MEGA time with Mikey Carpenter, Matt Hill and Jim Harris at Skydive Spain: 15000ft, two dornier, perfect weather for almost a month now, on top of that Fun shine, Big way skill camp aKa Big shine, and still few more days to go with the floquential…. Told you: MEGA
Next step: edit a highlight video of those two weeks, then a quick stop at Bottrop and finally find a way to grow a beard before Voss Vahlalla !!!
Ok so that gonna be pretty hard to not fall into the cliche “Im having the time of my life…. blablabla…. great country….. blablabla…. so much fun…. blabla…. awesome people”
So just check out the video I filmed and edited in collaboration with Christian Whyte during the Funny Farm Lite and you’ll understand.
By the way the video was projected the last day of the event, I’ve just been too much busy surfing with Håvard and hang out with dolphins…. getting ready for the HEAVY version of the Funny Farm in couple of week !!!
The last two years has been the most creative of my life, for sure. Slowly but steadily developing D4W as a discipline has been a privilige to take part of. It has brought me closer to my friends and made my fly a lot better.
D4W.net has a purpose, to show what is possible in the sport of skydiving and windtunnel flying. The site is not here for us, it is here for the athletes. We want to promote them and promote the events we organize. How. First of all we want to work with people that want to do something awesome for the sport. We want to organize kick ass events and keep developing the discipline.
Important key factors:-New competition concept
Maybe the biggest challenge will be to get people to work together. The sport needs more athletes. Now is the time to start teams, train, organize events, share experiences and learn to really fly.
Me and Håvard just came back from a Dynamic work shop in Eloy and a week of traning in Paraclete XP. We had the chance to fly with lot of different flyers, multiple world champion with years of experience, super skilled new school flyer, tunnel rats with thousands and thousands hours of tunnel, and some really commited students…. it’s so nice to see so much excitement and positive energy around the D4W concept. As soon as people start to fly it, they are hooked !!!
And play with the paraclete staff in the 16feet was KING. There is a very special energy in this place, same as Bottrop in matter of dedication towards flying but mainly focus on tricks, instead lines. It was also the perfect place and time to experiment the new D4W dive pool, rich from all the “Battle of Bottrop” experience and from countless hours of talking with lot of flyers, the new dive pool is technical and fun, everything connect in a smart way and make total sense. We’ll be ready soon to release it.
Today we are back in Bottrop, flying with students and David & Aurel from the Bottrop Bulls, it feels so nice to be back “Home” in the cleanest, smoothest tunnel ever. Thank you Bottrop Thank you !!!
Here a short clip with myself doing random stuff….
This is not skydiving but this guy offers us a perfect lesson about positive attitude towards the learning process, wich is sometimes one of the most difficult things to learn but absolutely necessary for an efficient progression. Something that everybody should keep in mind when you fuck up a move in the tunnel or do a bad job during a jump. Stay positive and try harder !!!
Our friends, Voss Ventus, the team who won the Battle of Bottrop asked Andreas Johannessen to film and edit a video clip from them training. The result is one of the best tunnel video I saw, with a perfect balance beetwen high flying skill, professionnel production and great understanding of the sport !!!
